Endoskop adı verilen içinden ışık çıkan bir kamerayla mide ve yemek borusu hatta onikiparmak bağırsağı kapsayan sindirim sisteminin iç kısmı görüntülü olarak incelenmesine endoskopi denir. Sindirim sistemi sorunlarına neden olan şeyleri bulmak böylelikle hastaya tanı koymak güvenilir ve etkili bir yöntemdir.

Bu yöntemle mide kanaması poliplerin alınmasında yaygın olarak kullanılır. İşlem sırasında sindirim sistemi içinde tümör benzeri kitleler görülmesi halinde kesin tanı konulabilmektedir. Mide içinde bakterilerin varlığı ve burdan parça alınarak biyopsi incelemesi sonucunda bakteri kökenli hastalıklarla teşhis edilebilmektedir.

Endoskopi Kimlere Uygulanır?
- İlaçla tedaviden sonuç alamayıp sürekli kabızlık problemi yaşayan hastalar,
- Sindirim sistemindeki en son organ olan makatta kanama olması,
- Poliple Crohn’s hastalığına sahip olanlar,
- Eğer mide röntgeni,tomografisi ilaçlı bağırsaklarda sorunlu lezyonlar görülürse lezyonlardan endoskopi ile parça alınır.
- Hortumla beslenen hastalara mide kateteri yerleştirmek sebebiyle,
- Kilo kaybı yaşayanların nedeni belirsiz ise, mide operasyonu geçiren hastaların kontrolü esnasında mide iç çeperlerinin durumunu tespit etmek için endoskopi kullanılabilir.
- İlaçların olumlu olumsuz etkilerini gözlemlemek için endoskopi uygulanır.
- Bağırsak duvarlarında anomalilikten şüphelendiği durumlarda bunlardan bazıları divertikül, polip, tümör gibi ve damarsal problemlerin tespit edilmesinde de endoskopi uygulanır. Mide filmi kontrastlı ve kontrastsız tomografi ve bağırsak tetkiklerinde şüpheli lezyonlar bulunması halinde parça alınıp incelenmesi için endoskopi ile girilip şüphelenilen bölgelerden parça alımı uygulanabilir.

- Mide operasyonu geçirenler,
- Mide ve sindirim sistemi ilaçları kullananlar,
- Daha önceden endoskopi olanlara da tekrardan endoskopi uygulanır.
- Ağzına kan gelen siyah dışkı yapanlar, ağzından kahverengi kusma yapanlara endoskopik yöntemlerin uygulanması gerekir.
